Moving on, a new generation of gaming consoles is always something to look out for but what happens if there’s still a lot to be achieved with the present generation of gaming consoles?

I have five reasons here on why we do not need a new generation of gaming consoles yet

5. Final Fantasy XIII – Since the days of NES, there’s been a Final Fantasy for every generation of consoles except for this present one. XIII has been in the works for a long time now – its first appearance was at E3 in 2006 – we cannot move on to next gen consoles until we get our XIII! Luckily, there’s already a release date for the PlayStation 3 on Thursday, December 17, 2009 in Japan and March 9, 2010 for North America, etc, etc. Screenshots, videos and game previews available here.

4. Transferring DLCs – Downloadable contents may not apply a lot to people in Nigeria where online gaming on consoles is still a myth [correct me if I’m wrong]. But for those outside the country that may have gotten achievement points over the past couple of years, bought expansion packs for their GTA4, Team Fortress 2 and even tracks for Rockband and Guitar Hero are not willing to lose all that stuff just yet because somehow they’ll have to transfer all their stuff to the the next gen consoles – if they’re allowed to.

3. The Expense – For those of you that haven’t noticed just yet, there is a recession out there. A lot of people are all excited that the PS3 is now way cheaper than it used to be at $300 – even though I still think that’s a lot of money. New consoles will not be any cheaper than their old counterparts and at a time like this, people are saving up their money to eat so they won’t die! As far as wallets go, next gen consoles should take a chill pill.

2. Games look good now – For those of you that haven’t seen gameplay footage from Uncharted2: Among Thieves, you should take a look and see what HD gaming should look like. Other titles like Modern Warfare 2, Assassins’s Creed 2 make the whole gaming experience worthwile and even encourages you to shell out $300 for that new console that can do ‘everything’ – yeah that’s right, I’m talking to you Sony.

1. Starting Over – Remember when Gears of War came out on the Xbox 360 and gamers were excited to see a game look that good on the console, that was about two years after the release of the console. It’s going to take about the same amount of time to adjust to the new hardware if next gen consoles finally come out. Developers are going to be busy cracking the code for the hardware than being creative making something really spectacular.

I hope with these few points of mine, I have been able to convince you and not confuse you that next gen consoles have to wait and we can all look forward to some really cool titles next year.
Thanks 🙂
